Busitema University Principal Institutional Advancement Officer Selected for U.S. Leadership Programme on Strategic University Partnerships
Ms. Harriet Nabirye, Busitema University’s Principal Institutional Advancement Officer responsible for Internationalization and Partnerships, was selected by the Embassy of the United States of America in Uganda to participate in the International Visitor Leadership Program under the theme “Strategic University Partnerships.”
The programme, funded by the U.S. Department of State through the U.S. Embassy in Uganda, has brought together higher education leaders to examine how universities build and sustain international partnerships, strengthen institutional management and connect higher education with innovation and economic development.
Ms. Nabirye is representing Busitema University in the United States, where participants are taking part in meetings, institutional visits and other engagements focused on university administration and best practices in higher education. The programme is examining a wide range of issues affecting universities, including accreditation, curriculum development, student admissions, joint research, intellectual freedom and technological advancement. Participants are also exploring how higher education institutions respond to changes in the job market and how universities work with the private sector in commercialisation, technology transfer and job creation.
Discussions have underscored the importance of aligning academic and institutional interests, building trust between partners, and identifying realistic areas of collaboration that can grow over time. As part of the programme, participants have also visited universities, research centres and innovation spaces across the United States, including bwtech@UMBC Research and Technology Park launched by the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, Morgan State University, Howard University, and the Virginia Tech Innovation Campus in Alexandria, Virginia, among others.
The programme is being delivered with support from Meridian International Center, the national programme partner, and continues with additional meetings and institutional visits across the United States.
